Initial log in instructions and introduction to your new website

The day has finally arrived, the new Iron County Historical Society’s responsive website has gone live!  HOWEVER, there is an extra, one-time, step that you will have to take to login to the member’s only portion of the website (more on that in a minute).

In transitioning to the new website, your existing login password could not be ported over to the new website.  Passwords are encrypted and no one (me or the developers) know what they are.  Because of this, dummy passwords were loaded for each of you and you will have to reset the password yourself.  Don’t worry, it’s super easy and you only have to do it once.  Here’s what you need to do:

When initially logging in, click on “Forgot password”, and follow the steps to set a new password. An email will be sent from the system where you will create your new password.  That’s it!

All of this and other new information will be place in blog posts on the website over the next couple of days, but if you have any questions or problems, feel free to reach out to me.  To speed things up, just send me an email at my personal account, johnmabney56@gmail.com and I will get back to you as quickly as possible.

Now, just a couple of new features and some other things to know.  First, our current newsletter is now in the public area of the website.  You no longer have to log in to view it.  The link is on the homepage.

Our newsletter archive will remain a members only benefit and will be accessible from the footer menu (the menu at the bottom of the page) once you log in.  Don’t try it just yet as I still have to create the link.  There is information there now, but it doesn't work yet.  I hope to have that page up and running tomorrow (Saturday, 4/25/26).

There are other pages that still need work as well to make them functional.  These include pages in the members only area of the footer menu for Meeting Minutes and Meeting Agendas.  On the public side, I need to make multiple blog posts explaining the features of the new website as well as adding the links for the book indexes that appear in the footer menu.  If you click on Exhibits on the menu at the top of the page, there are only two links there so far. More will be added over the coming weeks.

Finally, those of you that follow our Facebook page may have noticed that it has been deleted.  I do not know why this happened, but I have sent a request to Facebook to have it reinstated.  I’m not holding my breath that this will ever happen, so I have created a new Facebook page for the historical society: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61563174306036 .  This same link is at the bottom of the new website, just click on the Facebook symbol.

So, sorry for the interruption.  I hope you like the new website.  I have tried to keep it as simple as possible.
